Augusta Regional Airport Wins Project of the Year from the Georgia Airports Association for the Third Time!

On October 16, 2020 the Georgia Airports Association (GAA) awarded the Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) their annual Commercial Service Airport Project of the Year for the third time. The Airport previously won the award in 2016 and 2018.

GAA Board of Directors receives nominations from Airports across the State. The award criteria encompasses projects that significantly improved safety, Airport capacity, or required extraordinary resourcefulness.

AGS received the award for the Airport’s Apron Phase II Rehabilitation Project. This project was completed within a very strict time constraint and the team was able to incorporate some additional work into the original contract while maintaining the budget. This additional work included the construction of a new connector taxiway which greatly enhanced airfield efficiency and safety.

The $12.6 million dollar project came in under budget by $190,000.00. It was funded primarily by Federal Aviation Administration Grants (90%), Georgia Department of Transportation Grants (5%) and Airport Revenues (5%).

“The Airport is honored to have won this award yet again,” said Herbert Judon, Jr., AGS’s Executive Director. “In this unprecedented time for Airports and Aviation, this award epitomizes our broader vision and the hard work of staff and our partners. We collectively realize the importance of continuing to make strategic investments to position the Airport for sustained growth (and safety) both now and post-pandemic.”

Doug Barnard Parkway Improvement Project!

The Augusta Richmond County Traffic Engineering Department announced the initiation of the Doug Barnard Parkway Entrance Improvement Project. This project will commence on Monday, September 28th and is scheduled for completion on or around December 27th. Project hours are typically 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

This safety-enhancement project will widen a 700-foot section of Doug Barnard Parkway (south of the Tobacco Road intersection) adding a southbound left turn lane and a nothbound deceleration lane into the Airport’s South entrance.

Flaggers will be on site to ensure construction zone safety. There will be occasions when flaggers will alternately funnel north and southbound traffic. This may delay Airport patrons attempting to turn left into the main entrance.
Augusta Regional Airport recommends all Airport patrons who may travel through this area to please schedule travel time accordingly. Also, consider utilizing the Airport’s North entrance.

*NOTE: This project is scheduled for 90 days. Weather may affect the timeline. All questions regarding the construction project should be directed to the Augusta Richmond County Traffic Engineering Department, 706-821-1706. See attached image for aerial photo of construction area.
